When recapping works
The existing stringers and framing are solid and correctly spaced, and you want to change what's visible — treads, risers, nosing, railings and finish. Recapping is usually faster and less disruptive than a rebuild.
When it doesn't
Movement, rot, water damage, uneven rise, or a structure that isn't square. We tell you which one you have after we measure, before you commit to a scope.

What changes the price
Access, the condition underneath, out-of-square structure, and how much has to come out before the new work goes on. This is why the calculator gives a range and the site visit gives a number.
